May Your Words Last As Long As Our Barn

The perfect place to create -- a unique farmhouse that has been in the Skagit Valley since the dawn of the 20th century. A hundred year old barn to inspire you, acres of bucolic green fields to help clear away your writer's block and give you the mental space you need.

Spend a weekend at The Writers' House at Century Farm with Jennifer Basye Sander, NYT bestselling author, former Random House editor, and co-author of The Complete Idiot's Guide to Getting Published. The first Write At The Farm retreat was held August 12-14th, 2011. Many more to follow! Send an email if you'd like to hear about upcoming dates for retreats or classes,

Arrive mid afternoon on Friday to meet the other writers and get settled in your private room. Spend the next few days in blissful creativity, working on your project, writing together with the other participants, consulting with Jennifer, enjoying home cooked meals and the free flowing wine while you discuss all manners of literary things far into the night. This is just the way you always wanted your writing life to look!

Stay tuned for weekend retreat dates in May and July...

Still mulling over possible dates for weekend writing retreats in May (still time to catch the glorious Skagit Valley spring!) and July (when we can have fresh-caught crab for dinner if I am lucky at sea). Much activity in the barn right now, getting it ready for a local wedding in August and the possibility that we can hold larger writing events out there throughout the year. Farms, there is always something that needs doing...

About the Write At The Farm Retreats --

Okay... after years of doing writers' retreat weekends at our house in Tahoe, I am bowing to requests to do something up at the family farm in Washington. Located in the heart of the Skagit Valley just down the road from the tulip headquarters, my great-grandfather's farm is midway between the towns of La Conner and Mt. Vernon, about an hour and a half north of Seattle. Easy to get to, and wonderful to settle into once you are there, relax and let the scenery and the history inspire you. All you have to do is be a writer for those few days, I take care of everything else. Meals, wine, and a private room are included in the $385 price, and there are only four spots available. This is your chance to spend a pampered but productive and creative weekend in the company of other writers and publishing folk. Call if you want to ask questions -- 916-847-9090. For those coming from far away, the Skagit Valley is a great jumping off point for a longer trip and I am happy to make suggestions.
